Self-compassion is a weakness
Taught to the little black girls
From broken black women
To sacrifice, to give until there’s nothing left
To love. When their love isn’t given
To make away when away is not paved
To treat all with the benevolence and softness
To show empathy to others, but no clemency to ourselves,
Never to be meek,
Tenderness only given to a baby,
A heart of gold
Worthless to its owner.
